Jersey City Skyline

When I tell my New York City friends and acquaintances I live in Jersey City, I’m almost always met with the same reaction. “Ew, New Jersey,” they sneer. For them, all they know of New Jersey is bad jokes and the Jersey Shore. When I tell my New Jersey friends and acquaintances I live in Jersey City, I’m almost always met with apprehension. “Isn’t it scary there?” I’m asked. Honestly, before I moved here myself, I would have acted the same way.

I’ve lived in Jersey City now for a year, and I love it here. It’s a weird mash-up of my 22 years living in suburban New Jersey and my 2 years living in South Park Slope, Brooklyn. If I walk down a block one way, I’m met with the majestic Manhattan skyline, standing tall over the glimmering Hudson river and if I walk down it the opposite way, I’ll see highways that remind me of back home. A portal back to the cookie cutter mini malls and shopping centers that litter the rest of the state.

Review: Holiday Milk

Something caught my eye on our weekly trip to Target this past Sunday. Nestled next to the egg nog was something unfamiliar. Something… red and velvety. Holiday milk! As soon as I saw it I knew I had to try it. My girlfriend, Megan, was gracious enough to exchange her carton of egg nog for holiday milk. I was confused. Usually holiday food is limited to things like oreos and ice cream. Not milk. Milk is a staple food. You don’t mess with milk. So how was it? Read on!

Continuing where I left off from yesterday: The sky road foundation is finished. It leads from my house to my secret mountain base. I need to gather more material to lay track and build the glass enclosure.

I’ve been playing this game, Minecraft, the past few days and I am obsessed with it (pictured above is the front door to the house I built). I had seen this game before but I never really bothered with it until I realized I could play it on the Mac (or in a browser). There are two modes: Classic, which is like freeform lego mode where you build whatever you want with infinite resources and Indev which is like a survival mode where you start with nothing, have to harvest materials, build tools, mine for metals and build cool shit. Here are my experiences with the Indev mode. You can click on the pics to see bigger versions.

DOS Review: Zool 2

look at these eggsZool 2 was a DOS game made by Gremlin in 1994. I think it was for other systems too but I know for a fact it was on DOS as thats what I played it for. There was a Zool 1 but it was no where near as cool as Zool 2. Zool 2 is a platformer game where you play one of two ninjas (a guy or a girl) and you fight your way through various locales trying to defeat the evil mental block. See its funny because hes literally a mental block.

People with more than two last names

This is a repost from my old blog:

I’ve been noticing a trend recently. I don’t know if this is a relatively new thing but I notice a lot of people with new babies are giving them hyphenated dual last names. For example: John Wang-Johnson. I mean that’s cool and all if the wife wants to keep the last name, girl power god bless America and all that. But i’m just wondering what happens when the kid grows up and gets married and has a kid. Is the new baby named Hank Wang-Johnson-Dickens? And what about when that kid has a kid? Joseph Wang-Johnson-Dickens-Weiner?

Anyway, in my estimation you’re going to need 5 pages to fill in your last name on the SATs 40 years from now.
